Shop of Incomprehensible Wonder
Living in SwedenThere is a shop (or store) here that has really won me over. It is at times incomprehensible, but it is always good value. This is the place to go for bargain imported food, cheap housewares, army surplus, discounted branded cleaning supplies, and if you should ever need one, a cast iron stove and chimney.
The shop is commonly known as ÖoB, which is short for (and I had to look this up) Överskottbolaget, which means “Over Stock Shop”. This explains the ever varying lines of stock, and bargain prices. Every week we receive in the mail a small paper detailing the latest bargains to be had. It is not that strange to see a timber saw, toothpaste, a pedal bin, and a LCD TV advertised on the same page.
In the past I have managed to procure cheap English tea, Heinz baked beans, a cooling rack to place my over heating laptop on, shoe brushes... the list goes on, all really cheap. Also, we have bought a folding ex-Army shovel to keep in the car in case we ever get snowed in. Yes, we are that paranoid, and we both have a background in Scouting so we have “Be Prepared” tattooed on the inside of our eyelids.
There are cheap shops in the UK, but often you buy just disappointing tat, but with ÖoB stuff seems to be of an acceptable quality. Worth a visit if you ever find yourself over here... 70 shops country wide it says here.
And no, I am not getting paid to advertise.
That is all,
LostInTheWoods
