Waffle Day!
Living in Sweden
It seems a month cannot go by here
without something to celebrate. March is quite a quiet month, but it
has one of my favourite days in it. Waffle Day! Why is there a waffle
day here in Sweden? Well I had to look it up on Wikipedia as nobody
here knew why:
“The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary was once
called "Vårfrudagen" (Our Lady's Day) in Swedish. In
certain dialects, the word "Vårfrudagen" was
pronounced as "Våfferdagen", Over time the word
became "Våffeldagen" (Waffle Day), giving rise to the
tradition of eating waffles on this day.”
So there you go. Now, I am not very religious, all that is important to me is that I am furnished with a suitably large pile of waffles, whipped cream, jam and freshly brewed coffee. I would like to thank our friend Frida for doing this for me this year. Much appreciated.
Scrummy.
That is all.
